Who We Are and Why We’re Here

Skier descending trail into clouds at Lake Louise Ski Resort in Banff Canada

Most of us didn’t grow up skiing 100 days a year.

We learned to love the sport while balancing school, careers, families, budgets, and limited vacation time. Along the way we’ve skied everything from East Coast hills to bucket-list destinations across North America and beyond.

River Run Ski is for us.

You can get the 30,000 foot view on our About page, but for those of you thirsting for a bit more detail, this is where you will find it.

Who we are

River Run Ski is a collection of people with a passion for skiing and snowboarding (mostly skiing, though). Together, we have over a hundred years of experience in snowsports and have traveled extensively to engage this passion. Over the years, we have witnessed a lot of change in the industry; we’ve seen how social media and technology have made the world a smaller place; and we’ve learned a lot of lessons — sometimes the easy way...but more often it has been the hard way.

We’ve also got a lot of opinions.

We want to share this experience and knowledge with the world. But in particular we aim to serve people just like us: real people, with real lives. People who don’t make create content for a living, who aren’t independently wealthy and travel the world full-time, who aren’t free to chase powder all winter, and who aren’t “ski bums” doing 100 days at their local mountain.

These are people with mortgages, day jobs and limited time off. They may be planning around kid’s sports schedules or school calendars, or they may be juggling work deadlines and family commitments.

This is our audience.

Who we are not

Most ski content is created by performance-focused skiers, luxury travel influencers, or resort marketing organizations. River Run Ski is none of those.

Our goal is not to sell a destination — it's to help travelers decide whether a destination is right for them. Or teach them how we plan our ski trips and  navigate the logistics involved with destination ski travel. Or open up their eyes to options they weren't even aware of.

We don’t believe every ski trip needs to revolve around double-black diamonds, powder stashes, or backcountry adventures.

RRS includes skiers of different abilities, interests, and priorities. Sometimes we’re chasing great terrain. Sometimes we’re looking for a family-friendly destination, shorter lift lines, a great ski town, or simply a trip that’s easy to plan and fits the budget.

We think most ski travelers fall somewhere in the middle — and that’s who we’re writing for.

Our promise

We provide practical advice based on firsthand experience, independent research, and real-world travel.

Every article, guide, review, and recommendation should help readers make better travel decisions. We have no agenda. If we think a resort is overrated, we’ll say so. If we think a smaller mountain deserves more attention, we’ll say that too.

Our goal is not to tell you where to ski. Our goal is to give you enough information to decide what’s right for your trip.

We are not compensated by any ski resort, manufacturer or brand. We have no products or service to sell you (please see our Disclosure page for information on any affiliate links we may add later).

We have a passion for skiing and want to ignite this passion in you!
